A little piece of plastic or metal called an ear tag is applied to the ear of livestock or other animals using an applicator. These are visual aids used all over the farm for organization that make use of numbers, colors, or a combination of the two. Certain tags, referred to as fly tags or insecticide tags, even assist in deterring pests like horn and face flies.
What animals use ear tags.
All agricultural animals, with the exception of poultry, may have ear tags. Pigs, cows, sheep, goats, and other agricultural animals frequently have ear tags attached to them for identification. Leg bands are frequently put on poultry like chicken and ducks.
